COURSE SYLLABUS:

Nursing Jurisprudence & Ethics (Approved to meet BON Stipulations)

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

 

This combined eLearning course includes content related to the professional nurse with education and guidance in the areas of nursing jurisprudence and ethics. Topics include the role and function of the Texas Board of Nursing, Nurse Practice Act, standards of nursing practice, professional conduct, scope and practice of the RN and LVN, documentation of care, peer review and safe harbor, multistate compact, investigatory and Board’s disciplinary sanction policies regarding: sexual misconduct; fraud, theft and deception; nurses with substance abuse, misuse, substance dependency, or other substance use disorder; and lying and falsification. Additionally, principles of nursing ethics are explored relating to professional nursing practices, moral principles, ethical decision-making, professional boundaries, confidentiality, and considerations relevant to impaired nursing. Through lecture, case studies, group discussions, guided reflection, audio/visual aids, handouts, individual and group exercises, the nurse will explore components of nursing jurisprudence and ethics.
